Island Park Cohousing is a retrofit cohousing neighborhood that will be converting several adjacent apartment buildings into privately-owned condominiums, a community garden and shared Common House on a site 10 minutes from downtown Minneapolis. The land is next to the Islands of Peace Park which is bordered by the Mississippi River. Open House and Tour Our retrofit cohousing community will convert 36 existing apartments in three buildings (pictured above) into a phased mixed-income cohousing neighborhood. Home prices for the first building range from $145,000 to $175,000 for 1 to 3 bedroom condominiums. To give prospective members a chance to see the property and walk through the model home, an Open House will be held this coming Saturday and Sunday, December 2 & 3, from 12:00 noon to 3:00 PM at 151 Island Park Dr #2, in Fridley. Informational Public Meeting Next weekend there will be a free Introductory Meeting on Saturday, December 9 from 10:00 am to 11:15 am at the Michael Servetus Unitarian Society at 6565 Oakley Drive NE, in Fridley. The Meeting will be followed by a Site Tour of the property and a model home from 11:30 am to Noon. For those who are interested, discussions can continue over lunch at a nearby restaurant. Island Park is a 10 minute drive from downtown Minneapolis in the first-ring suburb of Fridley. The land for this cohousing neighborhood is next to the " Islands of Peace Regional Park" on the Mississippi River, and is within two blocks of both a proposed shopping center at the freeway exchange, and the planned Northstar Commuter Rail Station's closest stop to downtown.
